About this Role

About Turing:

Turing’s mission is to accelerate superintelligence to drive real economic progress. Headquartered in San Francisco, Turing works with frontier AI labs to generate high-quality data, evaluations, and reinforcement learning environments that improve model capabilities in coding, reasoning, tool use, and multimodality. In coding, Turing is the largest and longest-running data provider in the category. Turing also works with Fortune 500 enterprises across Financial Services, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Retail, Automotive, and CPG to build and deploy end-to-end agentic AI systems inside mission-critical workflows. By operating on both sides, Turing closes the loop between frontier research and enterprise deployment, turning real-world deployment signals into better data, evaluations, and more capable models.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive CUA Pod Lead to manage and lead teams working on high-impact AI training and data annotation initiatives. The ideal candidate should possess strong operational leadership capabilities, hands-on exposure to CUA-based projects, and experience managing annotation teams at scale.

The Pod Lead will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day annotation operations, driving quality and productivity, mentoring trainers and annotators, resolving workflow challenges, and ensuring smooth execution of project deliverables. This role requires strong people management, process optimization, and stakeholder coordination skills.

Lead and manage teams of CUA Data Annotation Trainers and Annotators. Drive operational excellence across annotation workflows and delivery pipelines. Ensure adherence to project guidelines, quality benchmarks, and SLA requirements. Monitor team productivity, utilization, and performance metrics. Conduct regular calibration sessions and quality reviews to ensure annotation consistency. Collaborate with QA teams, project managers, and cross-functional stakeholders to address edge cases and process ambiguities. Support onboarding, training, and continuous learning initiatives for team members. Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement process improvements. Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to team members. Track project progress and prepare operational reports for stakeholders. Handle escalation management and support issue resolution in a timely manner. Contribute to SOP creation, documentation updates, and operational best practices.

  Requirements

3-4 years of overall experience in CUA projects, AI data operations, or data annotation programs. Minimum 2 years of experience leading or managing annotation/training teams. Strong understanding of annotation quality metrics, review methodologies, and operational KPIs. Prior experience working on CUA-based workflows preferred. Experience managing high-volume annotation operations and delivery timelines. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Experience with process improvement and workflow optimization initiatives preferred.

 Preferred Skills

Familiarity with AI/ML data workflows and human-in-the-loop operations. Experience handling pilot programs, calibration exercises, and quality governance. Strong documentation and reporting capabilities. Ability to mentor and develop high-performing annotation teams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a software engineer?

Not anymore. Turing built its reputation matching senior engineers with Silicon Valley companies, but they have heavily pivoted into AGI infrastructure. They now hire non-engineering domain experts, technical writers, and researchers for post-training data annotation and RLHF. A strong analytical background and excellent English are required, but you do not need to code.

How does matching work?

Turing calls it the 'Intelligent Talent Cloud.' You build a profile and go through deep vetting — automated tests, an AI-powered interview, and practical skill assessments. Once vetted, Turing's algorithm automatically surfaces you to partner companies (Fortune 500s and top AI labs). You don't browse job boards or bid on work — matches come to you.

How does payment work?

You are hired as an independent contractor, responsible for your own local taxes. Turing collects payment from the client and pays you monthly in USD via Deel, Payoneer, or direct bank/wire transfer. Monthly pay is standard for long-term contract roles — if you need weekly cash flow, this structure requires adjustment.

What does the work actually look like?

It is practical, hands-on data work. You might be recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. The tasks are designed to be short and distinct—typically 5-60 minutes per task.

How flexible is the schedule?

Extremely. This is true "log in and work" flexibility. You can usually work for 20 minutes or 4 hours depending on your availability. There are rarely minimum hour requirements, making it ideal for side income.

Is there an interview?

Usually, no. Hiring for these roles is almost entirely based on passing an automated assessment or "qualification" task. If you pass the test, you get access to the work.
