How to Apply
Mercor is partnering with a top AI research lab on a project collecting high-quality photo and video data. We're looking for skilled videographers and content creators to produce polished portrait photos and short videos of real people following detailed creative and technical guidelines. Shoot high-quality portrait photos and 10β15 second videos of real subjects following detailed guidelines for framing, lighting, motion, and audio. Edit together multiple shots into a single polished clip per submission. Submit photo + video sets, ensuring each one meets quality standards for resolution, lighting, composition, and sound. Produce diverse content across a range of locations, outfits, actions, and emotions. Experience with cinematic style video production β either professionally, as a hobby or as a student. Access to a prosumer or professional camera β this is a hard requirement. Phone cameras will not meet the quality bar. You should be able to shoot at 1080p minimum, with 4K strongly preferred. Strong visual eye β your videos should have the production quality and aesthetic appeal of polished social media content (think high-quality IG Reels or YouTube shorts). Well-lit, sharp, cinematic feel. Basic video editing skills β each submission requires editing multiple shots together into a short, cohesive clip, as well as light color grading to improve aesthetic appeal. Clean audio capture β videos require clear, intentional audio. An external microphone is strongly recommended. Access to diverse subjects, locations, and wardrobes β the project requires variety in people, outfits, backgrounds, and settings, with a mix of indoor and outdoor scenes. Ability to follow detailed technical specs β framing, resolution, duration, file format, and export settings must all meet specific requirements. Attention to detail is essential. Pay structure: Per-submission compensation, equivalent to approximately $30 to $40 per hour. Feedback process: Early submissions go through a quick feedback loop with team leads to align on quality before you begin submitting at volume. Technical requirements: High resolution, uncompressed or minimally compressed exports. Participate in a ~20 min AI interview. Fill out a short form (~5 min) to confirm details. Top candidates will be invited to submit 1 sample task as a paid work trial. If the work trial task is passing, you will be invited to the project. We consider all qualified applicants without regard to legally protected characteristics and provide reasonable accommodations upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this for freelancers or full-time employees?
Both. Mercor tries to match you with clients who want long-term contractors. Unlike other platforms where you log in and grab small tasks, Mercor matches you with one company for a steady role (e.g., 'Python Tutor for 3 months').
I'm not comfortable on camera. Can I still apply?
No. The application requires a video interview with an AI avatar. The AI asks you questions about your resume, and the video is shared with potential clients to prove your communication skills.
Does it cost money to join?
No. You should never pay to join these platforms. Mercor makes money by charging the client a fee on top of your hourly rate.
What equipment do I need?
For voice or audio roles at this pay level, you typically need a professional home studio setup (XLR microphone, treated room). Phone recordings or laptop mics are usually rejected by quality control.
How is my work used?
You are providing high-quality "ground truth" data. For writers, this means creative generation. For voice actors, it often means training Text-to-Speech models. Be sure to check the specific contract details regarding rights usage for your voice or likeness.
Is creative freedom allowed?
Yes and no. While you are hired for your talent, you must often follow strict style guides (e.g., "Speak in a neutral tone" or "Write in the style of a technical manual"). The goal is consistency for the dataset.
How soon will I start?
Important: Mercor is a talent marketplace, not a task queue. Applying puts you in a pool of candidates. You will only start working when a specific client (like a major AI lab) selects your profile. This matching process can take weeks.
