You will leverage your geoscience expertise to train and guide AI models, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and quality in environmental, resource exploration, and geospatial data applications. If you are passionate about both geoscience and technology—and excel in communicating complex technical information—this is your opportunity to impact AI solutions in real-world geoscientific challenges. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to develop, review, and validate AI training datasets drawn from geological surveys, field studies, and research outputs. Analyze and interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data using advanced software tools, providing critical insights for AI training and validation. Apply expertise in areas such as mineralogy, stratigraphy, and seismology to classify, annotate, and evaluate Earth science data inputs for algorithmic improvement. Investigate the composition, structure, and history of Earth’s crust through the examination and measurement of soils, rocks, minerals, and fossil remains. Assess and identify natural disaster risks—including mudslides, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions—by synthesizing data sources and training models to recognize early indicators. Author clear, comprehensive documentation and communicate scientific concepts effectively to cross-functional teams in both written and verbal formats. Support the development and continuous improvement of AI-driven solutions for resource exploration, land reclamation, waste disposal, and environmental problem-solving. Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Geosciences, Geology, Geophysics, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field. Proven experience in geological data collection, analysis, and interpretation, including field studies and laboratory work. Proficiency with geological, geophysical, or geochemical analysis software and data visualization tools. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific findings to diverse audiences. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with a passion for accuracy and scientific rigor. Demonstrated collaborative approach, thriving in multidisciplinary and remote team environments. Knowledge of AI concepts or willingness to learn and apply AI in geoscience workflows. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience as a project geologist, environmental protection geologist, or in similar specialist roles (e.g., mineralogist, stratigrapher, geodesist, seismologist). Familiarity with AI data labeling, annotation, or training pipelines in technical or scientific domains. Experience communicating with and mentoring technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from the others?

Global Access. Micro1 is more open to international applicants (outside the US/UK) than DataAnnotation or Outlier.

What is the catch?

Privacy. Micro1 projects often require you to install time-tracking software that takes screenshots of your desktop while you work to ensure you are actually working. If you are uncomfortable with monitoring software, this might not be for you.

Is this just labeling data?

No. This is closer to academic research. You will likely be writing or verifying complex proofs, solving advanced equations, or checking the logic of a model's step-by-step reasoning. The goal is to teach AI systems to reason deeply in your field.

Do I need a PhD?

For the highest pay tiers in this category, a PhD (or current enrollment) is usually expected. However, the most important factor is your ability to pass the domain assessment. If you can solve the problems, the degree is secondary.

Is the work continuous?

Work in niche fields is often project-based. A specific "campaign" (e.g., training a model on Quantum Mechanics) might last for a few weeks. It is best to treat this as a high-paying fellowship or grant rather than a permanent daily job.

What is the interview like?

You will likely be screened by "Zara", an AI recruiter. Treat this like a real video interview—speak clearly, ensure you have good lighting, and be ready to answer technical questions verbally, as the transcript is reviewed by human managers.
