About this Role

About Turing:

Based in San Francisco, California, Turing is the world’s leading research accelerator for frontier AI labs and a trusted partner for global enterprises deploying advanced AI systems. Turing supports customers in two ways: first, by accelerating frontier research with high-quality data, advanced training pipelines, plus top AI researchers who specialize in coding, reasoning, STEM, multilinguality, multimodality, and agents; and second, by applying that expertise to help enterprises transform AI from proof of concept into proprietary intelligence with systems that perform reliably, deliver measurable impact, and drive lasting results on the P&L

Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Diagnostics / Troubleshooting Specialist with hands-on experience using Task Manager, Event Viewer, msconfig, Device Manager, and Windows Update Troubleshooter to identify, analyze, and resolve system and performance issues. The ideal candidate has strong technical troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of Windows operating systems, and the ability to diagnose hardware, software, startup, and update-related problems efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Train and evaluate LLMs for technical support scenarios involving Windows performance, startup issues, driver problems, update failures, and system errors. Create, review, and annotate troubleshooting datasets such as incident logs, support chats, diagnostic steps, and resolution workflows. Use Task Manager to model troubleshooting for CPU, memory, disk, and process-related performance issues. Analyze system and application logs using Event Viewer to identify error patterns and root causes for AI training tasks. Apply msconfig knowledge to guide LLM training on startup behavior, boot issues, and service conflicts. Use Device Manager workflows to train models on hardware, driver, and device-related issue resolution. Incorporate Windows Update Troubleshooter use cases into model training for patching and update failure scenarios. Develop prompts and response guidelines for diagnostic assistants, virtual support agents, and troubleshooting copilots. Evaluate AI outputs for technical accuracy, step-by-step clarity, safety, and troubleshooting effectiveness. Collaborate with AI, QA, and technical support teams to improve model performance and response quality. Maintain documentation, annotation guidelines, and quality standards for troubleshooting-related LLM projects.

Required Qualifications

Experience in IT support, desktop support, technical troubleshooting, or help desk operations. Strong hands-on experience with: Task Manager Event Viewer msconfig Device Manager Windows Update Troubleshooter

Familiarity with LLMs, AI tools, prompt writing, or annotation/review workflows. Excellent written communication skills, especially in explaining technical troubleshooting steps clearly. Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail. Ability to evaluate responses for technical correctness and completeness.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in AI training, data annotation, technical content review, or model evaluation. Knowledge of Windows administration, system logs, driver management, and update troubleshooting. Experience creating SOPs, troubleshooting playbooks, or knowledge base content. Familiarity with support automation, virtual agents, or AI-assisted help desk tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a software engineer?

Not anymore. Turing built its reputation matching senior engineers with Silicon Valley companies, but they have heavily pivoted into AGI infrastructure. They now hire non-engineering domain experts, technical writers, and researchers for post-training data annotation and RLHF. A strong analytical background and excellent English are required, but you do not need to code.

How does matching work?

Turing calls it the 'Intelligent Talent Cloud.' You build a profile and go through deep vetting — automated tests, an AI-powered interview, and practical skill assessments. Once vetted, Turing's algorithm automatically surfaces you to partner companies (Fortune 500s and top AI labs). You don't browse job boards or bid on work — matches come to you.

How does payment work?

You are hired as an independent contractor, responsible for your own local taxes. Turing collects payment from the client and pays you monthly in USD via Deel, Payoneer, or direct bank/wire transfer. Monthly pay is standard for long-term contract roles — if you need weekly cash flow, this structure requires adjustment.

What does the work actually look like?

It is practical, hands-on data work. You might be recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. The tasks are designed to be short and distinct—typically 5-60 minutes per task.

How flexible is the schedule?

Extremely. This is true "log in and work" flexibility. You can usually work for 20 minutes or 4 hours depending on your availability. There are rarely minimum hour requirements, making it ideal for side income.

Is there an interview?

Usually, no. Hiring for these roles is almost entirely based on passing an automated assessment or "qualification" task. If you pass the test, you get access to the work.
