Role Title: Legal Specialist Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is engaging Legal Specialists to contribute their domain expertise to a high-impact customer project focused on advancing AI capabilities. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. This engagement centers on sharing original, expert-authored legal documents — such as memos, case analyses, contracts, and policy papers — to support the development of nuanced, responsible AI agents. Materials must be rich in technical detail, well-structured, and include multimodal elements like tables, figures, or charts, illustrating genuine human insight and legal acumen. Scope of Work
- Provide high-quality, professionally structured legal documents authored in your field, including PDFs or Word documents with textual analysis, tables, charts, or diagrams.
- Ensure all shared materials are original and not sourced from the internet or generated synthetically.
- Demonstrate deep legal analysis, issue spotting, and technical depth through your submissions.
- Contribute a mix of document types and lengths, ideally ranging from 10 to 100 pages, reflecting real-world legal work.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and awareness of privilege in all materials and communications.
- Participate in feedback cycles as needed to clarify content or enhance document utility for AI model training.
- Communicate effectively with written and verbal updates, providing context or explanation where required. Preferred Qualifications
- Practising lawyer, legal researcher, compliance consultant, or legal professional with hands-on experience in document drafting and legal analysis.
- Demonstrated expertise in producing high-quality legal documents, such as memos, case briefs, contracts, or policy analyses.
- Strong legal writing, with proven ability to articulate complex legal concepts accurately and clearly.
- Experience incorporating tables, diagrams, or other modalities into legal documents.
- Keen awareness of confidentiality obligations, privilege, and data privacy in legal practice and document sharing.
- Proficiency in both written and verbal communication for project-related correspondence.
- Background in compliance, policy, or specific legal domains (e.g., intellectual property, regulatory, corporate) is an asset.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply to Micro1 from outside the US or UK?
Yes. Micro1 accepts applicants from most countries worldwide, unlike DataAnnotation or Outlier, both of which cap access to a handful of English-speaking countries. Most roles still require strong written and spoken English.
Does Micro1 monitor your computer while you work?
On many projects, yes, through time-tracking tools that take periodic screenshots to verify active hours. Check the specific project's requirements before accepting if desktop monitoring is a dealbreaker.
What does the Micro1 application process look like?
Expect a screening interview with Zara, Micro1's AI recruiter. Prepare for it like a real video call: good lighting, clear audio, verbal answers to technical questions. A human manager reviews the recording afterward, and some roles add a short skills assessment on top.
Is AI training work the same as traditional consulting?
No. Instead of client deliverables, you're given complex scenarios to evaluate: grading the AI's logic, correcting its hallucinations, and supplying expert-level reasoning it doesn't have on its own. The job is closer to teaching than consulting.
Why do these AI training roles pay so much?
Because general knowledge isn't what's being tested. The model already knows the basics; what it needs is expertise on edge cases, the rare, difficult, highly technical judgment calls only a senior professional in the field would make correctly.
What does the day-to-day workload look like for elite-expert AI training roles?
Slow and deep, not fast and repetitive. A single task can take 45-60 minutes of researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is what's being measured here, not throughput.
What does Legal work look like for a Legal Specialist?
Tasks here are scoped to Legal, not generic labeling. As a Legal Specialist, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Legal) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Legal background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What does the 'openings' count on this listing mean?
It's Micro1's live count of how many candidates it's still trying to place for this specific role, 10 right now, not a countdown on your individual application. A higher number signals more active demand; it doesn't lower the bar for acceptance.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Micro1's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
