About this Role

From the Turing listing

About Turing: Turing is one of the world’s fastest-growing AI companies accelerating the advancement and deployment of powerful AI systems. Turing helps customers in two ways: Working with the world’s leading AI labs to advance frontier model capabilities in thinking, reasoning, coding, agentic behavior, multimodality, multilinguality, STEM and frontier knowledge; and leveraging that work to build real-world AI systems that solve mission-critical priorities for companies. Role Overview: We are looking for experienced voice actors, narrators, podcasters, broadcasters, commentators, and long-form audio performers for an AI text-to-speech voice capture project. Selected contributors will record high-quality spoken audio that may be used to train, evaluate, and improve synthetic speech and text-to-speech systems. The ideal candidate has strong vocal control, proven recording experience, and the ability to maintain a consistent accent, tone, pace, and persona across scripted voice recordings. Candidates must have access to either a professional recording studio or a high-quality home-studio setup that can pass technical checks. Requirements:

- Record scripted voice samples using an assigned voice persona.

- Maintain consistent vocal tone, accent, pacing, pronunciation, and delivery.

- Submit clean, dry, unprocessed audio suitable for technical review.

- Follow recording, file naming, and submission instructions accurately.

- Complete a short vetting test before acceptance.

- Participate in re-records or corrections if technical or performance issues are identified.

- Be available for additional recording work if shortlisted for production capture. Candidates must have access to either a professional recording studio or a validated home-studio setup. At minimum, candidates should have:

- A quiet, controlled recording environment with no audible background noise.

- No fan noise, AC hum, traffic, appliance noise, echo, pets, or household interruptions during recording.

- A professional-quality microphone suitable for voice capture.

- A clean recording chain, including an audio interface or equivalent setup.

- A pop filter or windscreen.

- Closed-back headphones for monitoring.

- Ability to record and submit WAV audio.

- Ability to maintain consistent mic distance, gain levels, and room tone.

- Ability to submit raw, dry, unprocessed audio with no baked-in noise reduction, compression, EQ, reverb, limiter, or AI voice enhancement unless specifically approved.

- Stable internet access for instructions, uploads, and possible remote direction. Candidates may be asked to submit a short technical sample or room-tone check as part of the vetting process. Consent and AI Voice Use

- This project involves voice data collection for synthetic speech and text-to-speech model development. The recorded audio may be used to train, test, evaluate, and improve AI speech systems. The resulting synthetic voice output may sound like the contributor’s voice.

- Participation is voluntary. A detailed consent and release form will be shared during onboarding before any production recording begins. Candidates should proceed only if they are comfortable reviewing and signing consent terms related to AI voice data collection, synthetic voice generation, and possible digital replica use.

- All contributors must be 18 years of age or older. Perks of Freelancing With Turing:

- Work in a fully remote environment.

- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading LLM companies.

- Potential for contract extension based on performance and project needs. Evaluation Process

- Shortlisting based on qualifications and relevant professional experience.

- Shortlisted candidates will undergo a delivery review, after which they will be ready to start!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be a software engineer to work for Turing?

No, not anymore. Turing built its name matching senior engineers with Silicon Valley companies, but it has since expanded into AGI infrastructure work and now hires non-engineering domain experts, technical writers, and researchers for post-training data annotation and RLHF. A strong analytical background and excellent English matter more than coding ability.

How does Turing's talent matching work?

Turing calls it the Intelligent Talent Cloud. You build a profile and go through vetting (automated tests, an AI-powered interview, practical skill assessments), and once vetted, Turing's algorithm surfaces your profile directly to partner companies like Fortune 500s and top AI labs. You don't browse listings or bid on work; matches come to you.

How and when does Turing pay contractors?

Monthly, in USD, via Deel, Payoneer, or direct bank transfer. You're engaged as an independent contractor responsible for your own local taxes. Plan your cash flow around a monthly cycle if you're used to weekly payouts elsewhere.

What equipment do I need for creative AI training roles?

For voice or audio roles at this pay level, a professional home studio setup (XLR microphone, acoustically treated room) is typically required. Phone recordings and laptop mics usually get rejected by quality control.

How is my creative work actually used in AI training?

As ground-truth data: for writers, that means creative generation samples; for voice actors, it often means training text-to-speech models. Check the specific contract details on rights usage for your voice or likeness before signing.

Do creative AI training roles allow creative freedom?

Some, within limits. You're hired for your talent, but most projects still require following strict style guides, like keeping a neutral tone or matching a technical-manual style. Consistency across the dataset matters more than personal expression here.

What does Voice Acting work look like for a Voice Actor / Narrator : AI Text-to-Speech Voice Capture?

Tasks here are scoped to Voice Acting, not generic labeling. As a Voice Actor / Narrator : AI Text-to-Speech Voice Capture, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Voice Acting) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Voice Acting background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
