What to Expect

Breton language evaluation tasks involve a Celtic language spoken in Brittany, France, and one of the most endangered languages in Western Europe. Tasks require knowledge of Breton's Celtic grammatical structure, VSO word order, initial consonant mutation system (lenition, spirantization, and mixed mutation in different grammatical contexts), and the complex verbal system. Breton has several dialects (KLT and Vannetais are the main groups); tasks specify the target variety. Tasks evaluate correct mutation application, natural vocabulary (Breton has been subject to French influence and purist reform efforts, tasks may specify which lexical register is appropriate), and script accuracy. Audio tasks involve recording in natural Breton speech. Near-native or C1+ fluency with strong grammatical knowledge is required. Breton AI training data is extremely scarce, making this expertise particularly valuable for language preservation.
