What to Expect

Latin evaluation tasks address Classical Latin (the literary standard of Cicero and Virgil), Ecclesiastical Latin (used in Catholic Church contexts), and occasionally Medieval Latin. Tasks evaluate grammatical accuracy across Latin's five noun declensions (six cases, seven distinct paradigms), four verb conjugations with full tense, mood, and voice paradigms, and the agreement system for adjectives and participles. Prose composition tasks ask you to evaluate whether AI-generated Latin is grammatically correct and stylistically appropriate for the specified register. Translation evaluation asks whether AI Latin translations render the semantic content accurately and whether the Latin is idiomatic rather than a word-for-word English calque. Meter evaluation tasks (hexameter, elegiac couplet) assess whether AI Latin verse scans correctly. Advanced Latin competency, reading fluency in Classical texts, is required. Academic Latin training (typically Latin at university level or equivalent self-study) is the standard background.
