Odia (Oriya) Team Lead
$20-30 ? Estimated range. Actual pay varies by experience, location, and task type.
Quality Assurance Leads (QALs) are the second-pass reviewers of AI training work, checking that contributor output actually meets the rubric before it ships. Unlike software QA/test engineering, these roles span nearly every subject area: Legal QAL, Financial QAL, Astronomer QAL, Data Scientist Team Lead, and more. You typically need prior experience in the underlying domain plus a sharp eye for consistency, since you're auditing other trainers' scoring and feedback rather than producing your own from scratch. QAL roles usually pay a premium over the base contributor rate on the same platform.

You'll audit tasks already completed by other trainers in your subject area, checking whether the scoring and feedback actually followed the rubric. Expect to overturn a portion of submissions, flagging inconsistent grading, missed edge cases, or feedback that doesn't hold up, and to document why in writing. Most QAL work is asynchronous review, not live oversight, so you can batch-process a queue on your own schedule. Deep familiarity with the underlying subject (law, finance, a science field, etc.) matters more than formal QA credentials.
You review completed tasks from other AI trainers in your subject area, checking rubric adherence, catching inconsistent scoring, and flagging low-quality submissions before they ship. It's a review/audit role, not a hands-on production role.
No. Software QA/test engineering (unit tests, bug triage, code review) is covered under Software Engineering roles. QAL positions here are subject-matter reviewers, Legal QAL, Financial QAL, Astronomer QAL, overseeing quality within a specific domain, not testing code.
You need strong experience in the underlying subject (law, finance, a scientific field, etc.), not a formal QA background. Platforms look for people who already know what "good" looks like in that domain and can explain why a submission falls short.
Typically $25-75/hr, with rates scaling alongside the base contributor rate for that subject area, Legal and Financial QAL roles tend to sit at the higher end, and general QAL roles at the lower end.
