About this role
From the AfterQuery listing
Practitioner finance experts to write and review real world finance scenarios and grade how AI models handle them.
AfterQuery works with leading AI labs to improve how their models handle real world finance. We are building a standing bench of Finance Experts who bring genuine practitioner judgment to that work.
This posting covers the full range of finance practice. We are interested in financial advisors, wealth managers and paraplanners; CPAs, tax managers, tax preparers and enrolled agents; retirement and estate planning specialists; corporate finance, FP&A and controllers; consumer banking, lending and credit professionals; and insurance and annuities specialists.
The work is creating and reviewing finance scenarios and workflows, the kind of problems you handle for clients every week. You might write out how you would build a client financial plan, prepare an individual return, restructure debt, or assess a retirement position, and then review how an AI model handles the same problem and mark where its reasoning breaks down.
Everything is remote and scheduled around you. There is no cap on volume. Task criteria and support are provided in the project chat once you are onboarded, so you are never guessing at the standard.
Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in one of: Remote, United States
- Fluent proficiency in English (Written & Verbal)
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated expertise in Business
How long hiring takes
Across the AI training platforms we refer candidates to, the median gap between referral and hire is about 30 days. It varies by platform and role, so treat it as a rough guide for this one.
Why this role
AI labs pay $175/hr for a Finance Expert because getting Business nuance wrong in a training set is expensive to fix later. That's what this rate is pricing in.

Common questions
Do I need a PhD to qualify for AfterQuery?
Only for specialist roles: ML research, atmospheric modeling, bioinformatics, COBOL, and audit accounting positions require verifiable credentials, usually a PhD, master's degree, or 5+ years of professional experience. AfterQuery's domain screeners check credentials before confirming an assignment, so listing a degree without the matching experience won't get you through. Generalist reviewer roles have a lower bar but come up less often.
How long do AfterQuery projects last?
Typically 2 to 3 weeks at 10 to 20 hours a week. There's no guaranteed follow-on work once a project closes, so treat it as a high-pay burst contract rather than steady income. AfterQuery does re-hire specialists for new campaigns, but that depends entirely on what AI labs are training at the time.
Why do these AI training roles pay so much?
Because general knowledge isn't what's being tested. The model already knows the basics; what it needs is expertise on edge cases, the rare, difficult, highly technical judgment calls only a senior professional in the field would make correctly.
What does the day-to-day workload look like for elite-expert AI training roles?
Slow and deep, not fast and repetitive. A single task can take 45-60 minutes of researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is what's being measured here, not throughput.
What does Business work look like for a Finance Expert?
Tasks here are scoped to Business, not generic labeling. As a Finance Expert, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Business) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Business background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
English and Expert are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $175/hr, an hourly rate. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Afterquery's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
Can I apply from outside the United States?
This specific role is open only to people based in the United States. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply.
