About this role

From the Alignerr listing

What You'll Do

  • Listen to spoken audio recordings in Brazilian Portuguese and produce accurate, detailed transcriptions
  • Handle challenging audio scenarios including overlapping speakers, background noise, filled pauses (e.g., "é...", "tipo..."), and informal speech
  • Identify and differentiate between multiple speakers within a single recording
  • Follow detailed style and formatting guidelines with precision and consistency
  • Apply transcription conventions for non-verbal sounds, inaudible segments, and other annotation markers
  • Maintain quality and accuracy standards across high volumes of audio content
  • Flag ambiguous or problematic audio segments with clear, structured notes
  • Work independently and asynchronously — fully on your own schedule

About the Role

What if your native ear for spoken Brazilian Portuguese could directly shape how AI understands one of the world's most widely spoken languages? We're looking for detail-oriented transcriptionists — including Berlin's internationally connected Brazilian community — to produce accurate, high-quality transcriptions of spoken audio that teach AI systems how real people actually talk. This is hands-on, meaningful work that goes far beyond simple dictation. You'll navigate real-world audio featuring crosstalk, multiple speakers, filled pauses, background noise, and the full richness of natural Brazilian Portuguese conversation. Your ability to capture what's actually being said — with precision and consistency — is what makes this role essential. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. No prior AI experience needed — just native-level Brazilian Portuguese, strong listening skills, and a commitment to following detailed guidelines.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

Who You Are

  • Native Brazilian Portuguese speaker with an instinctive ear for natural speech patterns, regional accents, and colloquial expressions
  • Exceptional listening skills — you catch the words others miss
  • Detail-oriented and methodical, with the patience to work through difficult audio
  • Comfortable following and consistently applying detailed transcription style guides
  • Strong written communication skills in Portuguese
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently
  • Fast and accurate typist

Nice to Have

  • Professional experience in transcription, court reporting, or stenography
  • Background in subtitle creation, closed-captioning, or audio editing
  • Linguistics education or formal training in phonetics, discourse analysis, or language documentation
  • Prior work with annotation platforms, data labeling tools, or AI training pipelines
  • Familiarity with different Brazilian regional accents and dialects
  • Experience handling multi-speaker or interview-format audio

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based work
  • Contribute to AI development that directly improves how technology understands spoken Brazilian Portuguese

Common questions

How hard is the Alignerr assessment?

Hard, and unforgiving. Alignerr uses TestGorilla for timed, role-specific tests: a blank coding environment for engineers, strict grammar and fact-checking for writers. Treat it as one shot. Failing or abandoning it typically locks you out of that role permanently, with no retake.

How soon can I start earning on Alignerr after passing the assessment?

Not right away. After passing, you still complete identity verification through Persona and billing setup through Deel, then wait in a pool for weeks or months. You only start earning once a project matching your specific skills launches and assigns you. Don't count on Alignerr income until you're actively placed on a project.

How is my creative work used in AI training?

As ground-truth data: for writers, that means creative generation samples; for voice actors, it often means training text-to-speech models. Check the specific contract details on rights usage for your voice or likeness before signing.

Do creative AI training roles allow creative freedom?

Some, within limits. You're hired for your talent, but most projects still require following strict style guides, like keeping a neutral tone or matching a technical-manual style. Consistency across the dataset matters more than personal expression here.

What does Languages work look like for a Brazilian Portuguese Audio Transcriptionist (AI Training)?

Tasks here are scoped to Languages, not generic labeling. As a Brazilian Portuguese Audio Transcriptionist (AI Training), expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Languages) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Languages background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.

What specific skills does this listing call for?

Brazilian Portuguese and Portuguese are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.

How much does this specific role pay?

This listing is posted at $10–$35/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.

Do I need to be fluent in Brazilian Portuguese or Portuguese?

Yes. This role specifically requires Brazilian Portuguese or Portuguese proficiency, on top of the English most AI training work assumes by default. If Brazilian Portuguese is not a language you're fluent in, this is not the right role. Filter for your native language to find better-matched listings.

Do I need a Master's to qualify?

This role lists a master's degree as a requirement. In practice, the domain assessment is the real gate. If you can pass it, the degree is usually secondary. However, some platforms verify credentials formally, so list your actual qualifications accurately on your profile.

Can I apply from outside Brazil or Portugal?

This specific role is open only to people based in Brazil and Portugal. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply, since they can differ by country.

What is the barrier to entry for Alignerr?

A difficult, timed technical assessment in your specific domain, like Python, physics, or language. Passing it is required before you're eligible for any paid projects.
