About this role
From the Claru listing
As a Kitchen Capture contributor, you record first-person video of cooking, meal prep, cleanup, and kitchen tool use in your home kitchen. The footage trains AI systems used in cooking assistants, recipe tools, and kitchen robotics.
Scenes include knife work, stovetop cooking, oven loading, dishwashing, and food storage. Each capture is one full cooking task (a single recipe or meal prep block), typically 20–60 minutes.
This is one of our most popular sub-categories — flexible scheduling, work-from-home, and the cooking you'd be doing anyway.
This variant is open to contributors based in the United States. Pay is $15/hour USD, fixed flat rate, paid via direct deposit (ACH) on a bi-weekly cadence. US contributors typically run two to four captures per week and complete the first paid batch within 7–10 days of approval.
Claru contractors are independent — no fixed hours, no minimum commitment. You take captures that fit your schedule and skip the ones that don't.
Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in United States

Common questions
What counts as a usable capture for kitchen and cooking work?
You film knife work, stovetop cooking, oven loading, dishwashing and food storage, recorded first-person with a phone on a head mount. On this category each capture is one full cooking task, typically 20 to 60 minutes. Claru records at 1080p in landscape with the camera at its widest zoom, angled slightly down so your hands stay in frame for most of the clip, and asks you to work normally without narrating or staging anything. The footage trains cooking assistants, recipe tools and kitchen robotics.
Why does this listing pay $15/hr?
Claru prices capture work by market rather than by skill, and this variant is open to contributors in United States. The published tiers run $5/hr across its Asian markets, $6-$7 across LATAM, $10 in Canada and $15 in the United States, for the same filming spec. Applying to a higher-paying variant from outside its listed countries will not get you that rate, so apply to the one matching where you live.
Is there a minimum number of hours?
No. Claru engages capture contributors as independent contractors with no fixed hours and no minimum commitment, so you take the captures that fit your week and skip the rest. US contributors typically run two to four captures a week.
Do I need filming or acting experience?
No. Claru wants ordinary, unstaged footage of tasks you were doing anyway, which is why it asks you not to narrate or perform for the camera. The requirement that matters is access to the setting being filmed, along with the phone and mount.
Do task-based AI training roles require an interview?
Most skip a live interview entirely and gate access through an automated assessment or qualification task instead. Where we've confirmed the specific requirement for this listing, it's called out above in What We Know About This Role.
What does task-based AI training work look like?
Practical, hands-on data work: recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. Tasks are designed to be short and distinct, typically 5 to 60 minutes each.
What does Generalist work look like for a Kitchen & Cooking Video Capture — United States?
Tasks here are scoped to Generalist, not generic labeling. As a Kitchen & Cooking Video Capture — United States, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Generalist) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Generalist background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
AI Training and Content Review are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $15/hr, an hourly rate. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Claru's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
Can I apply from outside the United States?
This specific role is open only to people based in the United States. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply.
Who is behind Claru?
Claru is the contributor-facing brand of Reka AI, which collects human data for frontier AI labs across text, vision, video and robotics. Its board splits into regional video capture work and desk-based annotation and evaluation, and the apply link on this page is an affiliate link that does not change your pay or what you are offered.
