What to Expect

Hawaiian language evaluation tasks involve an endangered Polynesian language currently undergoing active revitalization in Hawaiʻi. Tasks require deep knowledge of Hawaiian grammar—the VOS word order (verb-object-subject), the distinction between ʻo and he predicates, directional particles (mai, aku, aʻe, iho), and the extensive use of the ʻokina (glottal stop, written as ʻ) and kahakō (macron) diacritics that are phonemically significant and often omitted or incorrectly placed by AI. Tasks also evaluate Hawaiian cultural appropriateness—language and culture are inseparable in Hawaiian, and culturally inappropriate usage is a form of inaccuracy. Audio tasks involve recording in natural Hawaiian pronunciation. Native speaker or near-native fluency with cultural competency is required.
