From the SME Careers listing
In this hourly, remote contractor role, you will work as a Brand & Strategy Subject Matter Expert (SME) to review AI-generated brand strategy, positioning, and go-to-market outputs and/or create expert brand and strategy content, evaluating reasoning quality and step-by-step strategic thinking while providing precise written feedback. You will assess solutions for accuracy, clarity, brand fit, and adherence to the prompt; identify issues in customer insight, segmentation, messaging hierarchy, positioning logic, differentiation, competitive analysis, and go-to-market planning; fact-check claims where needed; write high-quality explanations and model deliverables (e.g., positioning statements, messaging frameworks, briefs) that demonstrate correct strategic reasoning; and rate and compare multiple responses based on correctness, usefulness, and reasoning quality. This role is with SME Careers, a fast-growing AI Data Services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate, delivering training data for many of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation-model labs. Your brand and strategy expertise directly helps improve the world’s premier AI models by making their strategic marketing outputs more rigorous, on-brand, actionable, and clearly explained.
Important: There is no immediate project for this role; however, if qualified, you will be among the first experts we reach out to when relevant opportunities arise. This will also provide you with access to future projects available through our expert network.
Key responsibilities
- Develop AI Training Content: Create detailed prompts and gold-standard brand/strategy outputs (briefs, frameworks, messaging, GTM plans) to guide AI learning.
- Optimize AI Performance: Evaluate and rank AI responses to improve strategic rigor, clarity, brand alignment, and practical usefulness.
- Ensure Model Integrity: Test AI outputs for inaccuracies, hallucinated claims, bias, and brand-risk issues; validate reliability across industries and audiences.
Your profile
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Marketing, Business, Communications, Psychology, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of professional experience in brand strategy, product marketing, strategy consulting, or integrated marketing strategy (agency or in-house).
- Strong command of positioning and messaging (value prop, proof points, objections, narrative, and tone adaptation).
- Demonstrated ability to develop customer insights (qual/quant research interpretation, personas/JTBD, segmentation).
- Strong strategic reasoning: translating ambiguous goals into clear strategy, prioritization, and measurable choices.
- Ability to evaluate and improve deliverables such as brand briefs, messaging hierarchies, campaign concepts, creative strategy, and GTM plans.
- Exceptional attention to detail when spotting weak logic, unsupported claims, misaligned tone, or risky assertions; minimum C1 English proficiency.
- Reliable, self-directed, and able to deliver consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across time zones.
- Previous experience with AI data training/annotation, editorial QA, strategy ops, or content review workflows is strongly preferred.

How long hiring takes
Across the AI training platforms we refer candidates to, the median gap between referral and hire is about 30 days. It varies by platform and role, so treat it as a rough guide for this one.
Why this role
This Brand & Strategy Expert role pays $85 per hour to review AI-generated brand strategy, positioning, and go-to-market content for customer insight, segmentation, and competitive analysis. Messaging hierarchy and positioning logic are both named skills, so the role expects someone who has built a GTM plan rather than only critiqued one. Audience segmentation rounds out the requirements, tying the strategic work back to a specific customer definition.

Common questions
Is SME Careers work ongoing or project-based?
Project-based. Assignment duration and availability vary by project, but consistently high-quality work earns priority access to whatever comes next.
Does SME Careers offer a path for advancement?
Yes. SME Careers is unusual among AI training platforms for this: it publishes an explicit career ladder, Data Trainer, then Quality Analyst, then QA Lead, then Project Manager. Consistent, high-quality work is what moves you up it.
What does task-based AI training work look like?
Practical, hands-on data work: recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. Tasks are designed to be short and distinct, typically 5 to 60 minutes each.
What does asynchronous AI training work mean in practice?
No set hours, no check-ins, no meetings. You log in when you want, pick up an available task, complete it, and submit; nobody is waiting on you in real time. That's different from remote employment, where you're expected online during business hours. The tradeoff: you're competing with others for available tasks, so an empty queue means there's simply nothing to do until more work is released.
What does Business work look like for a Brand & Strategy Expert?
Tasks here are scoped to Business, not generic labeling. As a Brand & Strategy Expert, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Business) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Business background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
Value Proposition, Go-To-Market (GTM), Audience Segmentation, and Messaging frameworks are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $85/hr, a per-task rate. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to SME Careers's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
Who is behind SME Careers?
