What to Expect

Khmer language evaluation tasks assess AI accuracy in Cambodia's official language, written in one of the world's most complex writing systems—the Khmer script with its extensive subscript consonant forms, vowel symbols, and diacritics. Tasks evaluate correct script rendering including subscript usage, accurate vowel symbol placement, and appropriate use of the many registers Khmer grammatically encodes (from informal everyday speech to formal, royal, and religious registers). Khmer has no inflectional morphology but extensive derivational morphology using Indic-origin affixes. Audio tasks involve recording in natural Khmer speech. Native speaker or near-native fluency with strong Khmer script literacy is required. Khmer is significantly underrepresented in AI training data, making expert evaluation highly impactful and well-compensated.
