About this role
From the Mindrift listing
This opportunity is only for candidates currently residing in the specified country. Your location may affect eligibility and rates. Please submit your resume in English and indicate your level of English proficiency. At Mindrift , innovation meets opportunity. We believe in using the power of collective intelligence to ethically shape the future of AI. What we do The Mindrift platform connects specialists with AI projects from major tech innovators. Our mission is to unlock the potential of Generative AI by tapping into real-world expertise from across the globe. About the Role GenAI models are improving very quickly, and one of our goals is to make them capable of addressing specialized questions and achieving complex reasoning skills. If you join the platform as a Data Science AI Trainer, you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate on these projects. Although every project is unique, you might typically: Design original computational data science problems that simulate real-world analytical workflows across industries (telecom, finance, government, e-commerce, healthcare). Create problems requiring Python programming to solve (using pandas, numpy, scipy, sklearn, statsmodels, matplotlib, seaborn). Ensure problems are computationally intensive and cannot be solved manually within reasonable timeframes (days/weeks). Develop problems requiring non-trivial reasoning chains in data processing, statistical analysis, feature engineering, predictive modeling, and insight extraction. Create deterministic problems with reproducible answers: avoid stochastic elements or require fixed random seeds for exact reproducibility. Base problems on real business challenges: customer analytics, risk assessment, fraud detection, forecasting, optimization, and operational efficiency. Design end-to-end problems spanning the complete data science pipeline (data ingestion → cleaning → EDA → modeling → validation → deployment considerations). Incorporate big data processing scenarios requiring scalable computational approaches. Verify solutions using Python with standard data science libraries and statistical methods. Document problem statements clearly with realistic business contexts and provide verified correct answers. How to get started Simply apply to this post, qualify, and get the chance to contribute to projects aligned with your skills, on your own schedule. From creating training prompts to refining model responses, you’ll help shape the future of AI while ensuring technology benefits everyone.

Common questions
Why does Mindrift pay less than other AI training platforms?
General evaluation tasks pay $15-30/hr because they're high-volume, lower-complexity work like basic fact-checking and tone evaluation that doesn't require an advanced degree. Verified domain experts see rates scale up to $40-100+/hr on specialized projects, so the path is to start generalist and build toward a specialist track.
What does a typical Mindrift task involve?
Read a scenario, write a short prompt for the AI (around 100 words), evaluate two AI responses to it, fact-check the outputs, then write a brief explanation (around 50 words) on which response is better against the project rubric. The focus is clarity, safety, and rule-following, not creative writing.
Do task-based AI training roles require an interview?
Most skip a live interview entirely and gate access through an automated assessment or qualification task instead. Where we've confirmed the specific requirement for this listing, it's called out above in What We Know About This Role.
What does task-based AI training work look like?
Practical, hands-on data work: recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. Tasks are designed to be short and distinct, typically 5 to 60 minutes each.
What does Software Engineering work look like for a Freelance Data Science Expert (Python & SQL) / AI Trainer?
Tasks here are scoped to Software Engineering, not generic labeling. As a Freelance Data Science Expert (Python & SQL) / AI Trainer, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Software Engineering) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Software Engineering background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
AI Training is named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with this, expect the screening process to test for it directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $46/hr, an hourly rate. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
Is a PhD required?
For this specific role, yes, or near-equivalent professional depth. The credential gate is enforced at the assessment stage, not just on paper. That said, active PhD candidates and people with equivalent published research have qualified without a formal degree. The assessment is the real filter.
Can I apply from outside Singapore, Malaysia, Chile and 1 other country?
This specific role is open only to people based in Singapore, Malaysia, Chile, and Vietnam. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply, since they can differ by country.
