What to Expect

Sinhala language evaluation tasks assess AI accuracy in the primary language of Sri Lanka, written in the distinctive Sinhala script (an abugida descended from Brahmi). Tasks evaluate correct script usage including the complex vowel diacritic system, accurate representation of the Sinhala prenasalized stops (a distinctive phonological feature), and natural grammatical expression. Sinhala has a significant diglossia between literary/formal Sinhala and colloquial spoken Sinhala, these are sufficiently different that tasks always specify which register is needed. Grammatical evaluation covers verb agreement, case postpositions, and the evidential and aspectual distinctions in the verb system.
