About this Role

From the SME Careers listing

As a React Native Engineer, you will work remotely on an hourly paid basis to review AI-generated React Native code, mobile app architectures, and technical explanations, as well as produce high-quality reference implementations and step-by-step reasoning for complex engineering problems. You will assess solutions for correctness, clarity, security, performance, reliability, and adherence to the prompt; identify issues in React rendering/state, navigation, native-module integration, platform differences (iOS/Android), performance bottlenecks, memory/leaks, offline behavior, and release practices; fact-check technical information; write high-quality explanations and model solutions that demonstrate best practices; and rate and compare multiple AI responses based on correctness and reasoning quality.

This fully remote, hourly paid contractor role is with SME Careers, a fast-growing AI data services company and subsidiary of SuperAnnotate that provides AI training data to many of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation model labs—where your frontend expertise will directly help improve the world’s premier AI models used by millions of developers worldwide.

Important: There is no immediate project for this role; however, if qualified, you will be among the first experts we reach out to when relevant opportunities arise. This will also provide you with access to future projects available through our expert network.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop AI Training Content: Create detailed prompts across React Native topics and write high-quality reference answers to guide AI learning.
  • Optimize AI Performance: Evaluate and rank AI responses to enhance correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Ensure Model Integrity: Test AI outputs for inaccuracies or unsafe recommendations, validating reliability across real-world mobile use cases.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 4+ years of professional experience building production mobile apps, including React Native (2+ years preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern React (hooks, state management patterns, memoization, rendering behavior).
  • Hands-on experience with React Native fundamentals: component patterns, gestures/animations, lists, image handling, deep links, and notifications (as applicable).
  • Experience with navigation and app structure (e.g., React Navigation) and managing complex flows safely.
  • Strong understanding of platform-specific behavior and debugging on both iOS and Android (builds, logs, profiling, release issues).
  • Familiarity with native integration: bridging/native modules, permissions, app lifecycle, and dependency management (CocoaPods/Gradle).
  • Performance mindset: diagnosing and resolving jank, slow renders, large list performance, startup time, and bundle size.
  • Experience with data and networking: error handling, retries, caching, offline-first strategies, and secure storage basics.
  • Experience with testing and quality: Jest, React Native Testing Library, and E2E frameworks (Detox/Appium), plus CI/CD familiarity.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency (written and spoken), with the ability to write clear technical explanations and follow detailed English-language guidelines.
  • Previous experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a strong plus.
  • Highly detail-oriented and systematic, with a methodical approach to evaluating reasoning quality and identifying subtle issues in complex mobile code.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does SME Careers offer a path for advancement?

Yes. SME Careers is unusual among AI training platforms for this: it publishes an explicit career ladder, Data Trainer, then Quality Analyst, then QA Lead, then Project Manager. Consistent, high-quality work is what moves you up it.

How does SME Careers pay freelancers?

Weekly, through Deel. Deel also handles tax compliance, which is how SME Careers pays contractors across more than 40 countries without running its own international payroll.

Is SME Careers work ongoing or project-based?

Project-based. Assignment duration and availability vary by project, but consistently high-quality work earns priority access to whatever comes next.

Is AI training work the same as traditional consulting?

No. Instead of client deliverables, you're given complex scenarios to evaluate: grading the AI's logic, correcting its hallucinations, and supplying expert-level reasoning it doesn't have on its own. The job is closer to teaching than consulting.

Why do these AI training roles pay so much?

Because general knowledge isn't what's being tested. The model already knows the basics; what it needs is expertise on edge cases, the rare, difficult, highly technical judgment calls only a senior professional in the field would make correctly.

What does the day-to-day workload look like for elite-expert AI training roles?

Slow and deep, not fast and repetitive. A single task can take 45-60 minutes of researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is what's being measured here, not throughput.

What does Software Engineering work look like for a React Native Engineer?

Tasks here are scoped to Software Engineering, not generic labeling. As a React Native Engineer, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Software Engineering) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Software Engineering background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.

What happens when I click Apply on this listing?

You'll be taken to SME Careers's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.

Who is behind SME Careers?

SME Careers is the expert talent division of SuperAnnotate, an AI data infrastructure platform, connecting domain experts with high-level AI training projects.
