About this Role

We are looking for an Engineering Lead with 4, 8 years of experience to own the AI and technical operation at EdLight, an ed-tech startup building multimodal AI that reads handwritten student work and tells teachers exactly where a student's thinking broke down. You'll step into a high-impact role reporting directly to the CEO, shaping the technical roadmap and expanding our platform into new subjects and grade levels.

What will you be doing?

Own and improve EdLight's chain of AI/ML models, including computer vision, NLP, and multimodal systems that analyze handwritten student work - Expand the platform from math into new subjects (ELA, science), taking proof-of-concepts to production
Audit and strengthen evaluation sets, model monitoring, and performance observability
Collaborate with the external full-stack engineering team in Bulgaria, translating priorities, pushing technical quality, and maintaining alignment
Communicate the technical roadmap clearly to the CEO, grantors, board members, and non-technical stakeholders
