About this Role

We are looking for a Founding Commercial Real Estate Attorney with 7+ years of experience to lead and build Athena's fastest-growing practice area from the ground up.

You'll be joining a mission-driven, a16z-backed team of six (including former Legora leaders and AmLaw 50 attorneys) that is reimagining how law firms operate - replacing the billable hour with AI-powered efficiency and fixed-fee transparency.

This is a true founding role: you'll own the commercial real estate practice end-to-end, work directly with clients, and help define how Athena delivers real estate work.

What you need

7+ years of sophisticated commercial real estate transactional experience
Training at an AmLaw 200 firm or equivalent in-house experience; must be able to independently run transactions end-to-end
Builder mentality - high autonomy, low ego, comfortable with ambiguity and a flat, intense startup environment
Genuine excitement about AI in legal and Athena's mission to dismantle the billable hour
Active U.S. Bar license in good standing (California admission preferred)

What will you be doing?

Leading multifamily acquisition, disposition, and joint venture transactions end-to-end - from diligence through closing
Drafting and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, closing documents, and related transaction agreements
Working closely with Athena's AI platform to review and refine legal outputs, ensuring quality and accuracy at speed
Building the commercial real estate practice - defining playbooks, quality standards, and the operating model as the team scales
Collaborating directly with Athena's engineering and growth teams to win and serve clients from a rapidly growing $500K+ pipeline
