About this Role
IFS is building a small moonshot team inside R&D, the AI Software Factory, to change how software gets built at a 7,000-person enterprise software company. The first project is an AI product: an intelligence layer on top of IFS's legacy databases that changes how the software operates, rather than a chatbot bolted on. After that, the team turns what it learned into how IFS engineers build with AI, with many agents planning, building, testing and reviewing parts of one outcome in parallel, and checks that the combined result holds. As the senior engineer, you set the engineering rigor for the team and own the architecture and evaluation approach.
You'll feel at home here if you've written a lot of production software and want to break the bounds of how it usually gets built.
What you'll do
- Ship the first product. Build the intelligence layer on IFS's legacy data with a small, flat team.
- Own the architecture. Decide how work is split across agents, how concurrent changes are isolated and merged, and how the result is verified.
- Build the measurement. Design the evals, regression tests and drift checks that show whether an agentic workflow is safe to expand.
- Stay hands-on. Write the orchestration, evaluation and codebase-analysis components and wire them into real codebases and CI.
- Raise the bar. Review hard calls and guide engineers building on your architecture. No direct reports.
