Staff Software Engineer, Product (US)

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Product with 8+ years of experience to own technical direction and ship core product features at Holly, the AI-native HR platform modernizing how local governments hire and manage their workforce. You'll be a hands-on, full-stack builder working directly with the founders and Head of Engineering, setting architecture across the data model, backend, frontend, and AI systems. Holly is live across 60+ jurisdictions representing over 10% of the US population, has grown 100X in the last year, and is preparing to raise a Series A. This is a greenfield opportunity where most of the tech is less than a year old, you'll define the technical vision, not just build on top of it.

What will you be doing?

• Own features end-to-end, from data model and APIs to frontend and rollout, across Holly's product modules including compensation, labor relations, and new product surfaces

• Build AI-powered user experiences: design chat interfaces, integrate LLM tool-calling, and figure out how to present AI-generated insights to non-technical government users

• Serve as the technical lead for a new product pod (2, 4 engineers), setting direction and mentoring while staying 80% hands-on as an IC

• Ship data-rich product surfaces over messy government workforce data, search, filter, normalization, turning imperfect inputs into interfaces people trust

• Raise the engineering bar across the org through code review, architectural decisions, and establishing pragmatic standards that keep the team shipping fast
