About this role

From the Turing listing

About Turing  Turing is one of the world’s fastest-growing AI companies, accelerating the advancement and deployment of powerful AI systems. Turing helps customers in two ways: Working with the world’s leading AI labs to advance frontier model capabilities in thinking, reasoning, coding, agentic behavior, multimodality, multilinguality, STEM, and frontier knowledge; and leveraging that work to build real-world AI systems that solve mission-critical priorities for companies.

Role Overview

Turing is seeking exceptional Mathematics Research Specialists with expertise in Algebraic Geometry to join a high-impact, short-term research initiative. This project focuses on exploratory mathematical research, advanced proof development, and the design of reusable, high-level technical frameworks that translate abstract mathematical insights into structured architectural models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a specialized research team to investigate advanced mathematical formulations and foundational problems.
  • Develop, critique, and refine complex mathematical proofs and theoretical frameworks.
  • Communicate highly abstract mathematical concepts clearly to cross-functional technical teams.
  • Identify structural patterns within mathematical proofs and formalize them into reusable specifications.
  • Contribute to the architectural design of frameworks inspired by mathematical reasoning.
  • Document research findings, methodologies, and technical recommendations with clarity and precision.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Algebraic Geometry.
  • Strong record of peer-reviewed publications in leading mathematical journals.
  • Advanced proficiency in mathematical proof development and theoretical analysis.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Comfort working on high-risk, exploratory research problems.
  • Interest in connecting pure mathematics with technical architecture, formal systems, or computational frameworks.

Offer Details

  • Commitments Required: at least 4 hours per day and upto 40 hours per week with 4 hours of overlap with PST.

Why this role

This Mathematics Research Specialist role is specifically for algebraic geometry expertise, building problems and reference solutions in a subfield most math reviewers can't touch. It's one of Turing's narrower specialist openings, priced for depth in a single subfield rather than general math competence.

Common questions

How does Turing's talent matching work?

Turing calls it the Intelligent Talent Cloud. You build a profile and go through vetting (automated tests, an AI-powered interview, practical skill assessments), and once vetted, Turing's algorithm surfaces your profile directly to partner companies like Fortune 500s and top AI labs. You don't browse listings or bid on work; matches come to you.

How and when does Turing pay contractors?

Monthly, in USD, via Deel, Payoneer, or direct bank transfer. You're engaged as an independent contractor responsible for your own local taxes. Plan your cash flow around a monthly cycle if you're used to weekly payouts elsewhere.

What does task-based AI training work look like?

Practical, hands-on data work: recording short videos, categorizing images, rating text responses, or analyzing data. Tasks are designed to be short and distinct, typically 5 to 60 minutes each.

What does Mathematics work look like for a Mathematics Research Specialist – Algebraic Geometry?

Tasks here are scoped to Mathematics, not generic labeling. As a Mathematics Research Specialist – Algebraic Geometry, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Mathematics) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Mathematics background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.

What specific skills does this listing call for?

Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, and User Research are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.

How much does this specific role pay?

The listing doesn't state a rate. The $30–$70/hr shown here is our estimate from the role type and location (see /pay-methodology), so treat it as a rough guide and confirm the actual rate with the platform before committing time.

What happens when I click Apply on this listing?

You'll be taken to Turing's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.

Is a PhD required?

For this specific role, yes, or near-equivalent professional depth. The credential gate is enforced at the assessment stage, not just on paper. That said, active PhD candidates and people with equivalent published research have qualified without a formal degree. The assessment is the real filter.
