How to Get Your First Project on Alignerr: A Practical Guide

Passed the Alignerr assessment but no work appearing? What to do in your first day, how the Slack community and qualifiers decide who gets invited, and why quiet weeks happen.

8 min read

You passed the Alignerr assessment and the Zara video interview, your profile says Approved, and nothing has arrived. No projects, no emails.

Approval on Alignerr puts you in a pool. Work comes when a project launches in your category and the project team invites people from that pool. This guide covers what to set up in your first day, why some approved accounts never get invited, and how to tell a quiet week from a problem with your profile.

Approval puts you in the pool; a complete, active profile is what gets you invited

  • In your first day: join the Slack community, set your availability, and tag the skills you passed.
  • Finish the Zara video interview. Roles that require it will not invite you without it.
  • The common reasons for silence: an incomplete profile, an availability setting that does not match a launch, an unfinished qualifier, or not being in the community where invitations are announced.
  • Projects launch in waves, so quiet weeks are normal and are not a verdict on your account.

Three things to do in your first day after approval

Project teams invite people whose profiles match what the project needs. Those settings are empty until you fill them.

Step 1: Join the Slack community

Alignerr runs a Slack workspace for approved contributors. Project managers announce launches and tag eligible groups there, often before the email invitations go out. If you are not in it, you hear about launches last.

Step 2: Set your availability

Open your profile settings, set your availability to open for projects, add your timezone, and turn notifications on. Projects filter on this field.

Step 3: Tag the skills you passed

If you passed a Python assessment, tag Python. If you passed writing, tag the writing skill. Each tag is a category a project can match you on, and an untagged profile matches nothing.

Finish the Zara video interview before you wait for anything

Many people pass the written assessment and leave the video interview for later. Roles that require it will not invite you until it is done, so an unfinished interview looks the same as silence.

What the interview rewards

  • Full sentences. Zara moves on after a couple of seconds of silence, so answer in connected paragraphs.
  • Few fillers. If you need a moment, say so in words rather than filling the gap with "um."
  • Clean audio. Headphones, a quiet room, and no one else talking in the background.
  • A lit face. Sit facing a light source rather than a window behind you.

Our Alignerr interview guide covers the two interview modes and how the English score is built.

Four reasons an approved account gets no invitations

You are approved, you have the skills, and projects still are not coming. These are the causes contributors report most often.

An incomplete profile

An empty skills section or a blank bio gives a project team nothing to match on.

Fix: fill every section and write a two- or three-sentence bio that names your field.

An availability mismatch

A project launching this week does not invite someone whose availability starts in three weeks.

Fix: keep the availability field current, and set it to the soonest date you can start.

An unfinished qualifier

Projects often gate entry on a short qualifier task. If one is sitting in your dashboard unfinished, you are not eligible for that project.

Fix: open the My Skills tab and complete any qualifier you are offered, even a short unpaid one.

Not being in the community

Project managers announce launches in Slack and tag eligible groups there. If you are not there, you miss the announcement and sometimes the window.

Fix: join the Slack workspace and check it daily while you are waiting.

Work arrives in project launches, with quiet weeks between

Alignerr's work is tied to client projects. A project launches, invites a cohort, runs for weeks or months, and closes. Between launches in your category there may be nothing, and contributors describe the pattern as feast or famine.

During a quiet stretch, keep the profile active and complete any qualifier that appears, since a project in your category will pull from the pool of people who are eligible on the day it launches. Then put your hours somewhere else. SME Careers and Micro1 run on different project cycles, so a quiet week on Alignerr is rarely a quiet week everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

How long until I get my first project on Alignerr? ▼

Anywhere from the same day to several weeks. It depends on whether a project in your category is launching. A complete profile, an accurate availability setting and a finished Zara interview put you in the pool; a launch is what moves you out of it.

What if I fail the Zara interview? ▼

Alignerr treats assessments as one attempt per role. Some roles reopen a retake after a waiting period, but do not count on it. Prepare for the video interview the way you prepared for the written assessment.

Is Alignerr hiring right now? ▼

Check the signup page. Alignerr opens and pauses applications by category as projects launch. If the form says applications are paused, check again in a few weeks.

What should I do if Alignerr goes quiet for weeks? ▼

Keep the profile active and work somewhere else in the meantime. SME Careers and Micro1 run on different project cycles, so an application there covers the gap while Alignerr's next launch opens.
