Mercor is partnering with a leading AI lab to train frontier models on high-quality legal reasoning data. We're hiring Compliance and Regulatory Attorneys to design realistic regulatory scenarios, evaluate model outputs against established legal and compliance standards, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about regulatory frameworks, internal investigations, and high-stakes compliance work.

We welcome regulatory counsel, in-house compliance attorneys (with JD), former regulators, healthcare and financial regulatory specialists, and senior associates in compliance practice. Specialists in AML/BSA, FCPA, FDA, healthcare regulatory, sanctions, or privacy are all encouraged.

We're hiring Compliance and Regulatory Attorneys to design realistic regulatory scenarios, evaluate model outputs against established legal and compliance standards, and help shape how the next generation of AI reasons about regulatory frameworks, internal investigations, and high-stakes compliance work. We welcome regulatory counsel, in-house compliance attorneys (with JD), former regulators, healthcare and financial regulatory specialists, and senior associates in compliance practice. Design realistic regulatory scenarios drawn from your practice (AML/SAR preparation, OFAC screening, FCPA assessments, FDA submissions, HIPAA reviews, environmental permitting, administrative hearings, privacy/PIA) Write "golden" reference responses at attorney-level quality Grade AI-generated responses against structured rubrics Provide written feedback the research team uses to improve model behavior Participate in onboarding office hours and specialty calibration sessions Have 1–4 years of professional experience in regulatory or compliance law at a law firm, in-house legal department, government agency, or regulator Hold a J.D. (U.S./Canada) or LL.B./LL.M. from an accredited law school Are licensed to practice law in the U.S. (active or inactive) Have strong experience with one or more of: AML/BSA, OFAC sanctions screening, FCPA/anti-corruption, healthcare regulatory (HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Medicare/Medicaid), FDA submissions, privacy (GDPR/CCPA/PIA/DPIA), environmental permitting, export control, or administrative hearings Demonstrate excellent written communication skills with high attention to detail CIPP, CFE, CAMS, or similar certification Internal compliance investigation experience Experience drafting compliance training programs Familiarity with regulatory portals (FDA, federalregister.gov, NLRB.gov, EEOC) Minimum 15 hours per week (ideally 40+) Fully remote — must be based in the United States. No. The application requires a video interview with an AI avatar. The AI asks you questions about your resume, and the video is shared with potential clients to prove your communication skills.

Does it cost money to join?

No. You should never pay to join these platforms. Mercor makes money by charging the client a fee on top of your hourly rate.

Is this traditional consulting?

Not exactly. You act as a "Teacher" for advanced AI. Instead of client deliverables, you are given complex scenarios to evaluate. You grade the AI's logic, correct its hallucinations, and provide expert-level reasoning. Your job is to train the model to think like you do.

Why is the pay so high?

This role requires deep, verified expertise. General knowledge isn't enough; the model is specifically being trained on "edge cases"—the rare, difficult, or highly technical nuances that only a senior professional would know.

What is the workload like?

This is cognitive, deep work. Unlike simple data labeling, you might spend 45-60 minutes on a single task, researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is prioritized over speed.

How soon will I start?

Important: Mercor is a talent marketplace, not a task queue. Applying puts you in a pool of candidates. You will only start working when a specific client (like a major AI lab) selects your profile. This matching process can take weeks.
