micro1 is engaging Mechatronics Engineers to contribute to a specialized video annotation project for a customer's advanced robotics initiative. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. You will review and annotate video footage of robotic arms performing complex tasks, tagging sessions based on provided grading guidelines.
Scope of Work
- Review recorded video sessions of robotic arms executing various industrial tasks.
- Apply provided grading and annotation guidelines to tag, classify, and comment on each session.
- Identify, document, and categorize mechanical or control problems observed in the footage.
- Utilize expert understanding of machine movement to pinpoint reasons for operational failures or inefficiencies.
- Ensure all annotations are precise, comprehensive, and align with project standards to advance AI training quality.
- Collaborate with project coordinators as needed to clarify ambiguities in guidelines or video content.
- Deliver consistent, high-quality annotations within the framework and timeline established by the project.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional background in Mechatronics Engineering or closely related discipline.
- Prior experience with video annotation or data labeling, especially for robotic or industrial automation systems.
- Demonstrated ability to spot and interpret mechanical and control problems in complex machinery.
- Strong attention to detail, with a record of producing accurate technical deliverables.
- Understanding of why and how machines fail and the dynamics of robotic movement.
- Experience supporting AI training or machine learning projects is highly preferred.
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver results in a remote, asynchronous project environment.

Common questions
Does Micro1 monitor your computer while you work?
On many projects, yes, through time-tracking tools that take periodic screenshots to verify active hours. Check the specific project's requirements before accepting if desktop monitoring is a dealbreaker.
What does the Micro1 application process look like?
Expect a screening interview with Zara, Micro1's AI recruiter. Prepare for it like a real video call: good lighting, clear audio, verbal answers to technical questions. A human manager reviews the recording afterward, and some roles add a short skills assessment on top.
Is academic-niche AI training a continuous job?
Usually not. Work runs in campaigns, like training a model specifically on quantum mechanics, that might last a few weeks. Treat it as a high-paying fellowship or grant rather than a permanent daily job.
Is academic-niche AI training just data labeling?
No, it's closer to academic research. Expect to write or verify complex proofs, solve advanced equations, or check the logic behind a model's step-by-step reasoning. The goal is teaching AI systems to reason deeply within your specific field.
What does STEM work look like for a Mechatronics Engineer?
Tasks here are scoped to STEM, not generic labeling. As a Mechatronics Engineer, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to STEM) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on STEM background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
Video Annotation, Data Labeling, Attention to detail, and Spotting Mechanical and Control Problems are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
What does the 'openings' count on this listing mean?
It's Micro1's live count of how many candidates it's still trying to place for this specific role, 250 right now, not a countdown on your individual application. A higher number signals more active demand; it doesn't lower the bar for acceptance.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $50–$90/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
Do I need to be fluent in Latin America?
Yes. This role specifically requires Latin America proficiency, on top of the English most AI training work assumes by default. If Latin America is not a language you're fluent in, this is not the right role. Filter for your native language to find better-matched listings.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Micro1's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
Do I need a Master's to qualify?
This role lists a master's degree as a requirement. In practice, the domain assessment is the real gate. If you can pass it, the degree is usually secondary. However, some platforms verify credentials formally, so list your actual qualifications accurately on your profile.
Can I apply from outside the United Kingdom?
This specific role is open only to people based in the United Kingdom. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply.
