Role Title: Personal Finance Expert (UK) Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is engaging Personal Finance Experts (UK) to contribute to a customer's project focused on household financial workflows and advisory tasks. Scope of Work

  • Complete real-world personal finance workflow tasks, such as reviewing transactions, budgeting, and account organization, using securely connected UK bank accounts with all personally identifiable information redacted.
  • Apply expert judgment to provide guidance on UK-specific personal finance topics including ISAs, pensions/SIPPs, mortgages, savings, and HMRC Self Assessment, with clear and concise written explanations.
  • Assess and critique AI-generated financial advice against defined rubrics, delivering actionable feedback to improve model performance and reliability.
  • Verify and review financial documentation to illustrate how UK consumers and their advisers manage filing deadlines, account types, and financial decisions.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of evaluation rubrics and grading criteria for personal finance outputs.
  • Stay informed on regulatory changes in UK personal tax, pension, and savings legislation that impact project deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education in finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline (degree or equivalent).
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in personal finance roles focused on UK household matters (ISAs, pensions/SIPPs, mortgages, Self Assessment).

  • Current residence in the United Kingdom and active UK-based personal or business bank accounts.
  • Professional credentials such as CFP, DipPFS, FCA-authorised IFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CTA, ATT; additional designations like CFA or CTP are a strong plus.

AI labs pay $90–$110/hr for a Personal Finance Expert (UK) because getting Business nuance wrong in a training set is expensive to fix later. That's what this rate is pricing in.

Common questions

What does the Micro1 application process look like?

Expect a screening interview with Zara, Micro1's AI recruiter. Prepare for it like a real video call: good lighting, clear audio, verbal answers to technical questions. A human manager reviews the recording afterward, and some roles add a short skills assessment on top.

Is AI training work the same as traditional consulting?

No. Instead of client deliverables, you're given complex scenarios to evaluate: grading the AI's logic, correcting its hallucinations, and supplying expert-level reasoning it doesn't have on its own. The job is closer to teaching than consulting.

Why do these AI training roles pay so much?

Because general knowledge isn't what's being tested. The model already knows the basics; what it needs is expertise on edge cases, the rare, difficult, highly technical judgment calls only a senior professional in the field would make correctly.

What does Business work look like for a Personal Finance Expert (UK)?

Tasks here are scoped to Business, not generic labeling. As a Personal Finance Expert (UK), expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Business) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Business background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.

What specific skills does this listing call for?

Personal Finance, Finance Background, Document Handling, and Rubric Evaluation are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.

What does the 'openings' count on this listing mean?

It's Micro1's live count of how many candidates it's still trying to place for this specific role, 30 right now, not a countdown on your individual application. A higher number signals more active demand; it doesn't lower the bar for acceptance.

How much does this specific role pay?

This listing is posted at $90–$110/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.

What happens when I click Apply on this listing?

You'll be taken to Micro1's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.

Can I apply from outside the United Kingdom?

This specific role is open only to people based in the United Kingdom. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply.
