From the Micro1 listing
Role Title: Product Manager / Product Owner Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is engaging Product Managers and Product Owners as expert contributors to an advanced customer project focused on AI system development. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. This is strictly an evaluation and analysis opportunity. It does not involve roadmap ownership, delivery management, sprint facilitation, stakeholder leadership, or programme governance. Contributors with backgrounds in project management, programme management, delivery, or scrum leadership should not apply — this engagement requires deep product management and product ownership skills in content and specification evaluation. Scope of Work
- Assess and compare AI-generated responses to a variety of writing prompts, including specifications, release notes, user-facing copy, and stakeholder updates.
- Score each response based on clarity, tone, adherence to instructions, and usefulness for the intended audience.
- Write detailed rationales explaining the reasoning behind each score, focusing on whether the content meets prompt requirements and audience needs.
- Identify and document cases where fluent writing fails to answer the question, or complete responses are unsuitable for users.
- Spot factual inaccuracies, inconsistencies, and instances where content exceeds or misses prompt constraints.
- Collaborate virtually and asynchronously with project managers and reviewers to ensure consistency and quality in assessments. Preferred Qualifications
- Professional experience as a Product Manager or certified Product Owner, with a strong record in cross-functional product development.
- Native-level English fluency and exceptional written communication skills.
- Extensive experience authoring and evaluating specifications, PRDs, acceptance criteria, release notes, or decision documents.
- Demonstrated ability to judge whether content is appropriately tailored for executives, technical stakeholders, or end users.
- Proven skill in providing actionable, written feedback on technical or user-facing documentation.
- Attention to detail, critical analysis skills, and the ability to work independently while meeting remote project deadlines.
- Familiarity with model evaluation, RLHF, or annotation is a plus, but not required.
Requirements
- Product Management
- Product Ownership
- Specification Writing
- Content Evaluation
- Written Communication
- Attention to Detail
- Critical Analysis
How long hiring takes
Across the AI training platforms we refer candidates to, the median gap between referral and hire is about 30 days. It varies by platform and role, so treat it as a rough guide for this one.
Key responsibilities
- Assess and compare AI-generated responses to a variety of writing prompts, including specifications, release notes, user-facing copy, and stakeholder updates.
- Score each response based on clarity, tone, adherence to instructions, and usefulness for the intended audience.
- Write detailed rationales explaining the reasoning behind each score, focusing on whether the content meets prompt requirements and audience needs.
- Identify and document cases where fluent writing fails to answer the question, or complete responses are unsuitable for users.
Why this role
Micro1 pays $90-$140 per hour for this Product Manager / Product Owner role, and the scope is narrower than the title suggests. This is strictly an evaluation and analysis position: scoring AI-generated writing such as specs, release notes, and stakeholder updates against clarity, tone, and whether it answers what was asked, then writing a rationale that explains the score. Micro1 asks candidates with backgrounds in project management, program delivery, or scrum facilitation to look elsewhere, since the role leans on product management judgment about content and specifications specifically. It suits a working PM or certified PO with native-level English and strong writing skills.

Common questions
Does Micro1 monitor your computer while you work?
On many projects, yes, through time-tracking tools that take periodic screenshots to verify active hours. Check the specific project's requirements before accepting if desktop monitoring is a dealbreaker.
What does the Micro1 application process look like?
Expect a screening interview with Zara, Micro1's AI recruiter. Prepare for it like a real video call: good lighting, clear audio, verbal answers to technical questions. A human manager reviews the recording afterward, and some roles add a short skills assessment on top.
What does the day-to-day workload look like for elite-expert AI training roles?
Slow and deep, not fast and repetitive. A single task can take 45-60 minutes of researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is what's being measured here, not throughput.
Is AI training work the same as traditional consulting?
No. Instead of client deliverables, you're given complex scenarios to evaluate: grading the AI's logic, correcting its hallucinations, and supplying expert-level reasoning it doesn't have on its own. The job is closer to teaching than consulting.
What does Business work look like for a Product Manager/Product Owner?
Tasks here are scoped to Business, not generic labeling. As a Product Manager/Product Owner, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Business) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Business background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
Product Management, Product Ownership, Specification Writing, and Content Evaluation are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
What does the 'openings' count on this listing mean?
It's Micro1's live count of how many candidates it's still trying to place for this specific role, 10 right now, not a countdown on your individual application. A higher number signals more active demand; it doesn't lower the bar for acceptance.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $90–$140/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Micro1's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
