Role Title: Aerospace CAD Expert Role Type: Contractor Location: Remote micro1 is engaging Aerospace CAD Experts to contribute to a dynamic customer project centered on high-fidelity, multi-part aerospace assemblies. In this role, you'll apply your expertise to help train next-generation AI systems. Your work will shape how models learn, reason, and perform through high-quality, real-world input. No prior experience in AI is required — your domain knowledge is what matters. If you have a background in mechanical engineering, aerospace, or industrial design and thrive on technical precision, this is an exciting chance to impact the future of engineering design support tools. Scope of Work
- Author objective, multi-part questions about aerospace assemblies, focusing on non-guessable queries that require exact, technical answers.
- Review native FreeCAD files to analyze and understand complex mechanical assemblies.
- Develop several high-quality questions per assembly, ensuring coverage of key features, functions, and relationships between parts.
- Deliver clear, well-researched answers to each question with reference to the assembly data.
- Collaborate via writing and occasional verbal communication to clarify requirements and ensure technical accuracy.
- Maintain a standards-driven approach, ensuring questions and answers are comprehensive, relevant, and program-agnostic.
- Contribute to documentation and feedback processes to improve future question sets and project workflows. Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in aerospace, mechanical engineering, or industrial design with a strong foundation in CAD principles.
- Hands-on experience with multi-part CAD assemblies, including ability to interpret complex design intent and technical drawings.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to convey technical concepts clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with FreeCAD or similar CAD platforms (FreeCAD exposure is a plus, not required).
- Proven ability to author precise technical questions and answers, ideally in an educational or documentation context.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to providing high-quality, objective content.
- Interest in advancing technology and supporting the development of intelligent design systems.
Requirements
- cad (computer-aided design)
- freecad
- mechanical engineering
- aerospace assemblies
- technical writing
- technical drawing interpretation
- multi-part assembly analysis
How long hiring takes
Across the AI training platforms we refer candidates to, the median gap between referral and hire is about 30 days. It varies by platform and role, so treat it as a rough guide for this one.
Key responsibilities
- Author objective, multi-part questions about aerospace assemblies, focusing on non-guessable queries that require exact, technical answers.
- Review native FreeCAD files to analyze and understand complex mechanical assemblies.
- Develop several high-quality questions per assembly, ensuring coverage of key features, functions, and relationships between parts.
- Deliver clear, well-researched answers to each question with reference to the assembly data.
Why this role
The Aerospace CAD Expert role pays $40-$80 per hour to write technical, non-guessable questions about high-fidelity aerospace assemblies supplied as native FreeCAD files, covering how parts function together and why they were designed that way. Each question needs a specific, well-researched answer that traces back to the actual assembly data, and micro1 wants the output to stay standards-driven and program-agnostic rather than tied to one company's conventions. It suits people with hands-on aerospace, mechanical engineering, or industrial design experience who are used to reading complex technical drawings and putting design intent into precise written form.

Common questions
What does the Micro1 application process look like?
Expect a screening interview with Zara, Micro1's AI recruiter. Prepare for it like a real video call: good lighting, clear audio, verbal answers to technical questions. A human manager reviews the recording afterward, and some roles add a short skills assessment on top.
Can I apply to Micro1 from outside the US or UK?
Yes. Micro1 accepts applicants from most countries worldwide, unlike DataAnnotation or Outlier, both of which cap access to a handful of English-speaking countries. Most roles still require strong written and spoken English.
Is academic-niche AI training just data labeling?
No, it's closer to academic research. Expect to write or verify complex proofs, solve advanced equations, or check the logic behind a model's step-by-step reasoning. The goal is teaching AI systems to reason deeply within your specific field.
Do I need a PhD for academic-niche AI training roles?
For the top pay tiers, a PhD or current enrollment is usually expected. But the domain assessment is what decides it: if you can solve the problems, the degree becomes secondary.
What does STEM work look like for an Aerospace CAD Expert?
Tasks here are scoped to STEM, not generic labeling. As an Aerospace CAD Expert, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to STEM) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on STEM background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.
What specific skills does this listing call for?
cad (computer-aided design), freecad, mechanical engineering, and aerospace assemblies are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.
What does the 'openings' count on this listing mean?
It's Micro1's live count of how many candidates it's still trying to place for this specific role, 50 right now, not a countdown on your individual application. A higher number signals more active demand; it doesn't lower the bar for acceptance.
How much does this specific role pay?
This listing is posted at $40–$80/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.
What happens when I click Apply on this listing?
You'll be taken to Micro1's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.
Do I need a Master's to qualify?
This role lists a master's degree as a requirement. In practice, the domain assessment is the real gate. If you can pass it, the degree is usually secondary. However, some platforms verify credentials formally, so list your actual qualifications accurately on your profile.
