Job Summary
Join micro1’s elite Super Star Program as an Engineering Expert specializing in high-complexity engineering subdomains. In this highly selective role, you will serve as an expert advisor to our customer's team, tackling complex, real-world engineering challenges and informing the next wave of AI-powered solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Advise our customer's team and micro1’s core staff on complex scenarios within your engineering subdomain, providing actionable insights and recommendations. Participate in client calls to consult on potential pipelines and engineering problems, delivering expert analysis in real time. Collaborate with technical staff on research initiatives, identifying cutting-edge opportunities and shaping project direction in your area of expertise. Assess and communicate tradeoffs, constraints, and risks under conditions of incomplete information and evolving requirements. Translate deep domain experience into structured outputs, such as reports, recommendations, and AI use case scenarios. Bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity in engineering rationale and technical decisions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Demonstrated hands-on expertise in at least one of the following subdomains: structural engineering, mechanical/thermal systems, manufacturing/production systems, robotics/automation, power systems/electrical infrastructure, embedded systems, or control/systems engineering. Proven ability to solve real-world engineering problems, balancing cost, safety, performance, and timeline considerations. Exceptional judgment and ownership in high-stakes, high-constraint environments. Deep experience navigating tradeoffs and identifying failure modes in complex systems. Outstanding problem solving, execution, and prioritization skills, especially under uncertainty. Clear, concise communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions to non-engineering audiences. Track record of translating domain expertise into actionable recommendations and structured deliverables.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience advising internal or external teams as a domain authority on complex engineering challenges. Exposure to AI/ML projects, especially around the integration of engineering and intelligent systems. Published research or significant contributions to open-source or industry forums in your subdomain.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from the others?
Global Access. Micro1 is more open to international applicants (outside the US/UK) than DataAnnotation or Outlier.
What is the catch?
Privacy. Micro1 projects often require you to install time-tracking software that takes screenshots of your desktop while you work to ensure you are actually working. If you are uncomfortable with monitoring software, this might not be for you.
Is this traditional consulting?
Not exactly. You act as a "Teacher" for advanced AI. Instead of client deliverables, you are given complex scenarios to evaluate. You grade the AI's logic, correct its hallucinations, and provide expert-level reasoning. Your job is to train the model to think like you do.
Why is the pay so high?
This role requires deep, verified expertise. General knowledge isn't enough; the model is specifically being trained on "edge cases"—the rare, difficult, or highly technical nuances that only a senior professional would know.
What is the workload like?
This is cognitive, deep work. Unlike simple data labeling, you might spend 45-60 minutes on a single task, researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is prioritized over speed.
What is the interview like?
You will likely be screened by "Zara", an AI recruiter. Treat this like a real video interview—speak clearly, ensure you have good lighting, and be ready to answer technical questions verbally, as the transcript is reviewed by human managers.
