Sell a dataset you built to AI labs

A dataset built for one client, one research project or one product often has a second life as training data. Labs buy through marketplaces, mostly non-exclusively, and the first question is always rights. This page covers what sells and where it goes.

Register what you own Two minutes. No files, no uploads, no cost.

What kind of datasets sell

Buyers want data that is private, domain-specific and documented. Labelled examples from a real workflow, logs of real usage, expert-written corpora, records from a specialised field. A dataset the lab cannot scrape or synthesise. Documentation of how it was collected and labelled raises the price.

Scraped public data does not sell. Nor do datasets you downloaded from somewhere else. The buyer will ask where every row came from.

Size matters less than provenance. A few thousand expert-labelled rows with a clear licence beats millions of rows with unclear origin.

Rights you need

  • You own it, or hold a written licence that allows resale. Work done for a client usually belongs to the client. Get a release in writing.
  • Employees cannot sell employer data. No exceptions.
  • Personal data is the buyer's anonymisation problem, never ours. GDPR and similar laws still apply. Say up front if the data contains names, emails or identifiers, and expect the buyer to require removal or a lawful basis.
  • Images, audio and video need releases from the people in them if they are identifiable.

Where it goes

DataVendor takes datasets from individuals, founders and consultancies, by invite. Register here and we email the invite after a quick look. Listing is free and DataVendor says the seller keeps 80%.

Registered businesses can also list on Opendatabay directly. It takes companies only, not individuals. We are not involved and earn nothing from it.

Built the dataset inside a company that has since closed? It is worth more together with the rest of the workspace. See selling a closed company's workspace.

Before you register

  • Know the licence or ownership status of every source.
  • Write one line: what it is, how many rows or hours, how it was labelled, which domain.
  • Do not upload samples anywhere on this site. We never take them. The buyer will ask for a sample directly.

Register once, get routed to every buyer that fits

You tell us who you are and what you own. We show you the buyers that take it, with a plain line on what to expect from each, and email you once if a new program appears later. We never see, hold or transfer the data itself.
