About this role

From the Mercor listing

About the Role

Mercor is hiring practicing outpatient physicians (MD) on behalf of a healthcare AI partner building advanced clinical documentation and decision-support tools. In this role you will apply your day-to-day ambulatory expertise to review, annotate, and evaluate clinical documentation, directly shaping the accuracy, safety, and clinical usefulness of medical AI systems.

This role is open to any specialty, provided you are currently practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory setting and write clinical notes as part of your regular work. Endocrinology, infectious disease, dermatology, sports medicine, oncology, cardiology and other specialty outpatient practices all qualify.

This is a multilingual cohort. In addition to English, you must be able to speak, listen, and write in at least one other language at an advanced (C1) level or above.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Documentation Review

  • Review outpatient clinical notes, encounter summaries, and EHR documentation for accuracy, completeness, and clinical soundness
  • Evaluate AI-generated notes and summaries against what a practicing physician would actually document

Annotation & Structured Feedback

  • Annotate outpatient encounter data against detailed guidelines
  • Flag omissions, hallucinations, clinical inaccuracies, and documentation gaps in AI-generated output
  • Provide structured, written feedback that engineering and product teams can act on

Knowledge Contribution

  • Contribute expert input on annotation guidelines, documentation standards, and edge-case definitions
  • Raise clarifying questions where guidance is ambiguous and help refine the guidelines

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO, currently practicing in an outpatient or ambulatory setting — any specialty
  • US-based
  • Direct experience writing clinical notes in an outpatient setting
  • In addition to English, advanced (C1 or above) proficiency — speaking, listening, and writing — in at least one of the following languages:
    • Spanish · Chinese (Mandarin) · Chinese (Cantonese) · Tagalog · Russian · Haitian Creole
    • Korean · Arabic · Portuguese · Polish · Japanese · Vietnamese
    • Turkish · Italian · Ukrainian · Romanian · Finnish · French · Danish · Catalan · Hungarian · Czech · German · Bulgarian · Indonesian · Dutch
  • Minimum availability of 10 hours/week

Written proficiency carries real weight here: you will be reading clinical material and writing structured feedback, so please answer the language question accurately rather than optimistically.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of clinical practice post-residency
  • Familiarity with Epic
  • Experience with clinical documentation quality review, note auditing, or CDI exposure
  • Prior AI/ML annotation or model evaluation work experience
  • Experience documenting patient care in a language other than English

Work Arrangement

  • Remote, part-time — minimum 10 hours/week
  • Flexible scheduling, designed around an active clinical practice

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in one of: Remote, China, France, etc.
  • Fluent proficiency in English (Written & Verbal)
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in Healthcare
  • Valid professional license or certification in the relevant clinical/health field (MD, DO, RN, RD, NBHWC, etc.)
  • Current knowledge of medical standards and practices

Why this role

Common questions

Is Mercor for freelancers or full-time contractors?

Mercor places you with one client for a defined engagement, like 'Python Tutor for 3 months', rather than having you grab small tasks from a shared queue. Most roles function as steady contract work, not one-off gigs.

Does Mercor's application require an on-camera interview?

Yes, every applicant records a video interview with an AI interviewer that asks questions about your resume. Clients review that recording to judge communication skills before matching, so there's no way to apply without going on camera.

Why do these AI training roles pay so much?

Because general knowledge isn't what's being tested. The model already knows the basics; what it needs is expertise on edge cases, the rare, difficult, highly technical judgment calls only a senior professional in the field would make correctly.

What does the day-to-day workload look like for elite-expert AI training roles?

Slow and deep, not fast and repetitive. A single task can take 45-60 minutes of researching citations or verifying complex calculations. Quality is what's being measured here, not throughput.

What does Healthcare work look like for a Multilingual Outpatient Physician (MD) — Clinical Documentation & AI Evaluation?

Tasks here are scoped to Healthcare, not generic labeling. As a Multilingual Outpatient Physician (MD) — Clinical Documentation & AI Evaluation, expect to draw on real domain judgment (evaluating outputs, correcting errors, or providing expert reasoning specific to Healthcare) rather than following a one-size-fits-all rubric. If you don't have hands-on Healthcare background, this is likely not the right listing to start with.

What specific skills does this listing call for?

Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, and Chinese are named directly in the listing. If you don't have hands-on experience with these, expect the screening process to test for them directly rather than accepting adjacent experience as a substitute.

How much does this specific role pay?

This listing is posted at $170–$190/hr, an hourly rate. The range reflects experience level and negotiated terms, not a placeholder, so where you land in it depends on your background and the assessment. Pay can change between when we last checked the listing and when you apply, so confirm the current number on the platform's own application page before committing time.

Do I need to be fluent in Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian, or Vietnamese?

Yes. This role specifically requires Arabic, Bulgarian, Cantonese, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Turkish, Ukrainian, or Vietnamese proficiency, on top of the English most AI training work assumes by default. If Arabic is not a language you're fluent in, this is not the right role. Filter for your native language to find better-matched listings.

What happens when I click Apply on this listing?

You'll be taken to Mercor's external site to complete your application there. This listing links through a referral, but the process is identical to applying directly; the link just routes you correctly. Create an account on their site and follow their onboarding steps.

Can I apply from outside China, France, Germany and 7 other countries?

This specific role is open only to people based in China, France, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam. If you are somewhere else, applying is unlikely to lead to an offer even if you pass the assessment, because the restriction is usually about where the work can legally be contracted rather than your skills. Read the full description for any tax-residency or right-to-work caveats before you apply, since they can differ by country.

How soon will I start working after applying to Mercor?

Not immediately. Mercor is a talent marketplace, not a task queue, so applying puts you in a pool of candidates. You start working only once a specific client, like a major AI lab, selects your profile, and that matching process can take weeks.
